NATURE SERIES –  Inspired by the sufis, saints & philosophers

Ganga is a self taught, multi-disciplinary artist. Painting, writing, using clay, weaving, illustrating are the many different ways in which she expresses herself and enthralls the viewer in an immersive experience.
Her biggest source of inspiration has been Nature and her keen observations about its growth, survival and adaptation with respect to time and space reflects in all her work.

This special collection is derived from her love for foraging in natural surroundings with her young daughter. The 2020-2021 lockdown brought her closer to the environment and she curated these pieces of art with carefully crafted arrangements and nurtured it over time. www.gangakadakia.co

Process

Botanical Pressing Technique which is used in this collection requires at least three months to dry completely and for it to be free from moisture. Therefore Ganga dived in on this journey without a sense of time and nurtured it with a lot of patience. She also reconnected with her younger skills of collecting and stringing beads and embroidery and thread work which she brushed up through various courses throughout the pandemic. These details add to the beauty and artistry to each artwork.

Some of the materials used to finish these pieces are – Eri silk threads, natural fibres, dyed fibres, hemp, yarns, silk cloth, semi precious stones, nickel, ceramic and animal bone beads from travels.
The techniques used for assembling these artworks involved embroidery, weaving, thread work, stringing and water colour on silk. Each of these works have been accompanied by a sufi poem to see the connection between life and the passing.
The titles and the inspirations for this collection come from a finite space, where time and matter were still.
